Twin Cities – Surat and Navsari
Posted on | January 15, 2010 | 11 Comments
Gujarat Chief Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi has unveiled his ambitious plans to to create twin cities on lines of New York and New Jersey in Gujarat. These include Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar, Surat-Navsari and Bharuch-Ankleshwar.
Creating the twin cities would entail having better infrastructure for transportation, affordable housing, sustainable energy sources and jobs. In my humble opinion, this is a very ambitious plan with challenges, but not at all impossible. All these twin cities will create centers of economic and social growth, not that Ahmedabad’s reputation as a major city is questioned.
Not totally unrelated to the twin cities concept, there are plans to create a middle ring road costing approximately Rs. 178 Crores (US$36Million). The interception is planned at Magob with canal road corridor to link the traffic coming from Surat-Kamrej Road, Surat-Bardoli Road and Surat-Navsari Road.

@Viren, I agree Modi is not only a visionary, he knows how to implement projects that benefit all the people.
I have been visiting Gujarat every 2-3 years since 1986, sometimes every year and the maximum progress I found with respect to Navsari and the nearby villages was after the BJP came to power in Gujarat. I assume that this must be true for all of Gujarat as well. Do not want this to be a political rant. But the cause of the most misery is poverty, alleviate that and people become happy and they will forget differences about religion and castes. Religion and caste are just instruments used by political parties to remove themselves of the burden of working for the people.

I think its a great plan. It will not only decongest Surat but also help Navsari to be a Housing, Educational & Medical hub in future. It will also anvail Navsari to grow as a mini residential township for people who work in Surat’s industries. Also, better transport facilities, electricity and water (which is undoubtebly is available also). Three cheers to Mr. Narendra Modi!!!!!!!!!

I think they should develop Tri-city not Twin City……
Surat needs a Metropolitan authority as soon as possible….
Also they should develop New Surat same on the basis of Navi Mumbai.. The land between Mindola and Purna can be used for the New Surat- an independent city. So the tri cities of Surat-Navi Surat-Navsari are better than twin city… Because tricity is detail project in comparision to twin city…
